On October 27, 2023, SISTER HANNA M. SZYMANIAK, SSMI, age 69, of Hyattsville, MD; was born in Poland and a member of the community of the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate. Sister Hanna was pre-deceased by her parents and one brother in Poland and is survived by a brother and numerous nieces and nephews. A viewing for Sr. Hanna will be held on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, from 3.30-5.30 pm at Gasch’s Funeral Home. Mass of Chrisitan Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home Chapel on Thursday 2, 2023, at 10 am proceeded by the Rosary at 9.30 am. Interment at Holy Rosary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Home, Inc.

Dusan “Dewey” Josef Schejbal 89 of University Park, Maryland died on October 17, 2023. Born in Prague, Czechoslovakia on August 20, 1934, Dewey immigrated to the United States with his parents, Josef and Dobruska in 1947. They settled in the Washington, D.C. area where Dewey continued to live until his death. Dewey loved his family and is survived by wife of 60 years, Krista, daughters, Julie, Lisa (Mike), Nikole (James) and four grandchildren, Haylie (Chris), Anna, Delaney, and Griffin. Dewey graduated from Northwestern High School in 1953. He graduated from the University of Maryland in 1961 where he was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity. During college, he was drafted in the Army and spent most of his service time in Germany. After graduation from Maryland, Dewey spent his career with the federal government. Proudly, he became a United States Citizen on December 18, 1961. Dewey was an avid tennis player and developed many close friendships with his fellow tennis players. Dewey enjoyed traveling with his family especially with Krista. Upon retiring, Dewey and Krista traveled many places including Australia, many national parks, Jamaica, several trips to Europe including back to his homeland of the Czech Republic and even a raft trip down the Grand Canyon. Then there was that legendary family trip to Europe…. If you went on a trip with Dewey, you knew the trip was planned to the last detail including the best local places to have a beer. Family and friends are invited to visit with the family from 10-10:45 followed by a celebration of life on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at the University United Methodist Church 3621 Campus Drive, College Park, Maryland. Melvin Robert Kent, born on March 10, 1940, in Washington, D.C., peacefully passed
away on October 15, 2023, at the age of 83.
Melvin was married to his high school sweetheart, Katherine, for 63 years, and together
they built a life filled with cherished memories. He leaves behind a legacy that includes
his spouse, Katherine Kent, his children, Paul Kent, Bobby Kent, and Sandi Cresswell, his
cherished grandchildren, Megan, Sean, Anthony, Jessica, Logan, and Kalina, his adored
great-grandchildren, Tara, Juniper, and Harlow, and beloved pet Baby.
Melvin was an avid collector of paintings, with a deep appreciation for art. He also had a
passion for old cars and enjoyed attending car shows. In particular, he restored a 1939
Chevrolet with the help of a friend and held a special affection for his 1979 Corvette.
Melvin split his time between Maryland and Florida, enjoying the best of both worlds. He
had a fondness for Maryland crabs and cherished the moments spent sharing them
with loved ones.
In memory of Melvin Robert Kent, the family kindly requests that donations be made to
the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.

Our beloved Robert Louis Jones, 86, of New Carrollton, Maryland passed away peacefully at
home on Monday, October 1, 2023.
Robert was born August 13, 1937 in Philomath, Georgia, the son of Everine Pope and Marian
Jones. At the age of 5, he attended New Springhill School until moving to Washington, Georgia
in 1948 where he attended The Washington Color School. Robert graduated as salutatorian in
1954 and won a partial scholarship to Tuskegee Institute at Tuskegee Alabama. Robert moved
backed to Georgia where he worked at Emory University as a medical laboratory researcher
until joining the United States Air Force. While in the Air Force, Robert was stationed at several
bases including, Vanderberg Air Force Base, Lompoc California, Offutt Air Force Base, Omaha,
Nebraska, Anderson Air Force Base, Yigo, Guam, and Thule Air Force, Greenland. He was last
stationed at The Armed Forces Institute of Pathology at Walter Reed Army Medical Center
Washington, District of Columbia. Robert retired in 1979 at the rank of Master Sargent. Robert
continued working as medical laboratory technician at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology
until finally retiring in 2007.
When Robert and his family moved to Maryland, he became a faithful member of First United
Methodist Church of Hyattsville. Robert taught Sunday school, sang in the gospel choir, and
served as an usher. An active member of United Methodist men, Robert believed in doing
whatever was needed to support the church. During the winter months, Robert and Annie
attended New Song United Methodist Church in Surprise, Arizona.
Robert is survived by his wife, Annie Jeannette (Powell). Married for 64 years, Robert and Annie
have two children: daughter Cheryl Jones, of New Carrollton, MD and son Kenneth Jones of
New Carrollton, MD. Robert leaves to cherish his memories: a sister, Emma D. Jones of
Covington, GA; brothers-in law; Arthur Powell of Tuskegee, AL; and Augustine (Marva) Powell
of Detroit, MI. Robert is preceded in death by brother-in law Thomas Powell of Tuskegee, AL;
and sisters-in laws Eva Hires of Tuskegee, AL and Clementine Mobley of Columbus, GA.
Robert also leaves a host of other relatives and friends.
Now that Robert’s work is done, may he rest in peace.
