Reverend Gerard A. Trancone (Fr. T.; Fr. Jerry), October 22, 1942 – July 4, 2023, a native of
Newark, NJ. Son of the late Anthony and Grace (Visco) Trancone. He was predeceased by his
sister, Mary Lou Trancone, Rose Corbo and her husband, Anthony M. Corbo, and nephew
Anthony E. Corbo. Fr. Trancone was ordained to the priesthood on May 17, 1969 for the
Archdiocese of Washington after completing a Master of Divinity degree at St. Vincent Seminary
in Latrobe, PA. His first assignment was to St. Bernard of Clairvaux parish in Riverdale, MD
where he was known for his ministry to the Teen Club and production of the Club’s Broadway
review musicals. In 1972, he was transferred to St. John the Baptist de la Salle parish in
Chillum, MD. It was at St. John’s that his interest in learning American Sign Language (ASL)
began. After becoming proficient in ASL, he was assigned in 1978 to serve as Catholic Chaplain
at Gallaudet University, the global leader in education for deaf and hard of hearing students. He
later served as Director of the Center for Ministry to the Deaf and St. Francis of Assisi Chapel in
Landover Hill, MD. He ministered to deaf and hard of hearing Catholics in the Archdiocese of
Washington for over 40 years until his retirement. He also served in leadership positions for
several professional organizations dedicated to pastoral ministry to the deaf and hard of hearing.
He served as an advocate for the deaf and hard of hearing with great compassion, empathy,
and love.
As a part of his ministry to the Archdiocese of Washington, Fr. Trancone reviewed movies for the
Catholic Standard demonstrating his passion for theatre and film. Father was the moderator for
the Maryknights in Silver Spring. He used his creative talents in liturgical art and environment
and was an ardent traveler with his family, brother priests and parishioners.
Funeral services will take place Thursday, July 13, 2023, and Friday July 14, 2023 at St. Bernard
of Clairvaux Catholic Church, 5700 St. Bernard Drive, Riverdale MD. On Thursday, visitation will
be from 3:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. with a Vigil Mass at 7:00 p.m. with Most Reverend Roy Campbell
presiding. On Friday July 14, His Eminence Wilton Cardinal Gregory, Archbishop of Washington,
will preside at the Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Following Mass there will be a repast at St.
Bernard’s. Interment to follow at Stonewall Memory Gardens in Manassas, VA.

On June 23, 2023, Rose Marie Cicala (88), passed away peacefully with her only daughter, Christina
Cicala Boblits, by her side. Rose was born on November 23, 1934, in Washington DC. Rose is survived by
her daughter, Christina Cicala Boblits, and Son-in-Law, Robert Boblits, Grandsons Anthony Garrett Cable
and Evan Bryce Boblits, her two sisters, Mary DeRight and Juanita Wilson and the growing Italian family
she loved so dearly.
Rose married John Cicala on September 14, 1958, and had their only daughter Christina in 1964. Rose
was a career woman, when women in the workforce was not common. She worked at the US Treasury
Department as Secretary to the Secretary of the Treasury for 25 years, and then as Director of
Correspondence for the Treasury Department until her retirement. She moved to Ocean City, Maryland,
after her husband John passed away in 1998. She loved the beach, her friends and singing in a chorus
that gave performances all over Ocean City, and lived there until 2017, when she left and went to live
with Christina and her family. She loved her time with her Grandchildren, Anthony and Evan, and took
pleasure in the day-to-day activities of the busy boys. She was a very proud Grandparent. She was
selfless to all, her family and friends, and was a Mother who was always there, always supportive, and
always putting her family first. She was an avid reader of all authors, but loved Danielle Steele, and was
an excellent crossword puzzler. Recently her Grandsons, Anthony, who is a US Navy pilot and stationed
in Jacksonville, (but leaving to be stationed in Spain this past April), and Evan, spent hours in the kitchen
with Rose making homemade chicken cacciatore, homemade spaghetti sauce and meatballs and
listening to her favorite Frank Sinatra music. This was the kind of day that made her happiest. Family
was her passion.
Services will be held on Monday, July 3, 2023, at Gasch’s Funeral Home, 4739 Baltimore Avenue,
Hyattsville, MD, 20781, 10am-12pm. Burial services will directly follow at Fort Lincoln Cemetery, 3401
Bladensburg Road, Brentwood, MD. Repast will be at American Legion Post 238, 6265 Brandywine Road,
Hughesville, MD 20637. Please feel free to bring desserts, as Rose loved her desserts after a good meal.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Rose’s favorite charitable organizations, Any Soldier Inc.
