Doris Jane Lehman

Lanham

Doris Jane (Polk) Lehman, lovingly known as “MA”, of Lanham, MD, went to be with the Lord on August 12, 2024 at the age of 87, at home surrounded by her loving family and her cat, Shadow.

Doris was born on September 5, 1936 to Glacie & Ralph Polk in Mt. Jackson, VA. She grew up in Washington, DC, spending all her summers in the mountains of Mt. Jackson, VA with her grandparents.

She met her husband, Gerry, at the Home Town Restaurant in Washington, DC and they were married on April 2, 1955. They moved to Lanham, MD in 1962 where Doris resided in her home until going to be with the Lord.

Doris was a cashier at Giant Food in Berwyn Heights, MD for 28 years. Her customers became her family and they would wait in long lines just to go through her check out. She was a member of the Berwyn Hgts Senior Center where she enjoyed her friends and playing Bingo. Doris was a Life Member of the Bladensburg Ladies Auxiliary helping with many functions including Children’s Bingo. She was also a life member of The Ladies Auxiliary to the Prince Georges County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association.

Doris loved the Lord and was a member of the New Carrolton Bible Church, serving the Lord through ministries including VBS, where she always made the snacks, Awana and Children’s church. She faithfully had her “Doris’ candy bag” full of goodies for all the children. She enjoyed crafting, crocheting, quilting and decorating cakes, seem everyone received a decorated cake for one occasion or another, and she loved to go to Walmart where she would go off in her cart not to be seen for hours. Her proudest and most precious moments were made with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was always one of the loudest fans at many of her Grandchildren’s ballgames and school events.

Doris was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Gerald Otho Lehman, her parents, Ralph and Glacie Polk, her loving sister, Patricia Ann Brey and her vivacious grandson, Jason Matthew Philpott and son-in-law, William Philpott.

Her daughters, Linda Utterback (John) and Gwen Philpott (Bill) (Buddy) and her beloved grandchildren; William Philpott (Hannah), Jason Philpott preceded in death (Megan), Jessica Philpott-Kidwell (Michael), John Utterback (Melissa), Jeff Utterback (Natalie). Along with her precious great grandchildren, Matthew, Zack, Lauren, Sara, Benjamin, Gracelynn, Savanna, Colton, Seth, Ella. Doris is also survived by her loving sister, Joyce Turner, and nieces, Deahn Turner and Yvonne Turner of Lakeland, FL, and Pamela Brey of Brandywine, MD.

Doris will be missed and her passing will leave a great void in our hearts but she is now walking in heaven with Jesus.
