Lawrence E. Day passed away peacefully on September 7, 2024, in Hyattsville, Maryland, at the age of 84. Born on February 16, 1940, in, D.C., Lawrence lived a life marked by service, commitment, and a profound love for his family.
Lawrence enjoyed a distinguished career as the Chief of Procurement for the District of Columbia Government, where he served until his retirement in 1993.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Lawrence honorably served in the U.S. Army and Army Reserve from 1964 to 1970. His military service exemplified his commitment to his country and the values he cherished.
A passionate sports enthusiast, Lawrence loved baseball, football, and hockey. He took great joy in sharing his enthusiasm for sports with his grandchildren, fostering a love for these activities that will no doubt continue through generations.
Lawrence's legacy lives on in the hearts of his loving family, including his wife, Kathleen Day; his daughters, Michele Adkins and Teresa Cassiday; and his son-in-law, Charles Cassiday. He will also be deeply missed by his grandchildren: Justin Aiken, Jessica Aiken, Colin Cassiday, and Austin Cassiday. Additionally, his great-grandchildren—Chase Aiken, Brooklynn Calvert, Bentley Calvert, Emma Faye Cassiday, and Bentley Burley—will carry treasured memories of their grandfather.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the viewing to be held on September 15, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Gasch's Funeral Home P.A., located at 4739 Baltimore Avenue, Hyattsville, MD 20781. Following the viewing, a service will take place at the same location at 3:30 PM. He will be buried at a later date at Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia, SC.
