DARBY WILLIAM HARRINGTON

MAY 20TH, 1962 – SEPTEMBER 5TH, 2024

SELBYVILLE, DELAWARE

Darby W. Harrington, 62, passed away peacefully on September 5th, 2024, at his home in Selbyville, Delaware.

Darby was born on May 20th, 1962, in Washington, DC, to James and Anne (Mehalic) Harrington who played pivotal roles in shaping the man he became. His childhood was spent in Hyattsville and Upper Marlboro, MD forging lifelong bonds with his eleven siblings, Colleen, Kathleen, Darleen, Kevin, Timothy, Patrick, Brian, Pegeen, Noreen, Daniel, and Rosaleen. After graduating from Largo High School, Largo, MD in 1980, Darby began his career as a dedicated Union Journeyman Steamfitter with Local 602 specializing in Heating, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration a profession that he pursued with skill and passion throughout his lifetime working all over the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia.

Darby was extremely dedicated to and accomplished in his career, but he valued nothing more than spending time with his family and those he loved. Among his most valued time would be spent with his grandchildren, Julia, Victoria, Tessa, and Mia. Darby loved to hit the road traveling many miles to spend time with them as they celebrated birthdays, and accomplishments, played sports, and participated in school and community events. Each holiday brought many laughs, and thoughtful gifts, like Chuck Taylors for all of the grandkids to match Pop Pop’s! Vacations, beach visits, and soccer trips to Disney World would become foundational memories of the kid’s childhood. Darby’s grandchildren were the light of his life and just the sight or the sound of them would bring a smile to his face. He was extremely proud of and adored his children and grandchildren.

Darby is survived by his loving mother Anne (Mehalic) Harrington of Laurel, DE, daughter Morgan Yuhase (James), and their children Julia and Victoria “Tori”, of Huntingtown, MD, son Edward “EJ” Harrington, and daughters Tessa and Mia of Saint Leonard, MD, and son Christopher Harrington of Manasses, VA. Who carry his legacy of hard work and integrity. Siblings, Colleen “Leenie” Peake (Litton) of PA, Kathleen “Kathy” LaRue (James) of DE, Darleen “Boo” Keese (James Irvine) of FL, Kevin Harrington of DE, Timothy “Timmy” Harrington of MD, Patrick “Pat” Harrington (Mei) of MD, Brian Harrington of DE, Pegeen “Peggy” Morgan (Chris) of MD, Noreen “Doodle” Connelly (Daniel) of MD, Daniel “Danny” Harrington (Laura) of MD, and Rosaleen “Rosie” Schmitt (David) of DE. Darby was preceded in death by his father, James Edward Harrington, and older sister Eileen Elizabeth Harrington.

Darby Harrington was a beloved son and brother, a devoted father, a skilled tradesman, and a pillar of strength for his family. He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.
