On Tuesday, December 8, 2020, Margaret Smith of Greenbelt, Maryland passed away suddenly. Mrs. Smith was a kind, thoughtful and generous person who touched the hearts and lives of many. Upon her retirement from Metro (WMATA), she went on to work for the Bowie Baysox. She is survived by her husband Bill, four step-children, her five siblings, and many other extended family members. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and Virgil Henry Parker. A Christian mass will be held on Sunday, December 27th at 12 noon at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 4000 30th Street, Mt. Rainier, Maryland.

Rose McChesney 86, of Lanham, MD, passed away on November 5, 2020 at Anne Arundel Medical Center, Annapolis, MD. The daughter of the late Fire Captain George R. Flaherty (Florence) of Washington, D.C., she was predeceased by her beloved husband James of 33 years and her son, James W. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth McChesney of Crofton, MD and granddaughter Amy Gould (Wes) of Fairfax, VA.
Rose worked at the U.S. Dept. of Commerce before having a family and becoming a full time homemaker. During this time, she assisted with parent teacher activities and was an active member of the St. Mathias Catholic Church. In later years, she volunteered for the NASA Retirees Newsletter and Anacostia High School reunions. She loved being a stay at home mom where she enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing and taking family trips. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Chesapeake. Private graveside interment.

Phyllis Fohrman Herndon died October 28, 2020 at Collington Life Plan Community following a long struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was preceded in death by her husband, William, and is survived by two children, three grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Phyllis was the only child of Milton and Harriet Fohrman of University Park, Maryland. She graduated from McKinley Technical High School in 1948 and obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Maryland, College Park in 1953. She met her husband while in college and they were married at Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church in College Park, Maryland on March 6, 1954. They resided in Arlington, Virginia and Beltsville, Maryland prior to moving to Bangkok, Thailand in 1966. After living overseas, they returned to Beltsville, Maryland and University Park, Maryland. Phyllis worked for the Washington Gas Company in the 1950’s. She was active in the P.E.O., holding several leadership positions including President of Chapter K. Phyllis also served in leadership roles with the Daughters of the American Revolution. Her family requests that donations be made in her memory to the P.E.O. (https://www.peointernational.org/).
