Obituary

Executive Chef Stephen Sekula, Jr., a longtime resident of Hyattsville, went to heaven on March 13, 2022 at the age of 79. Steve was born and raised in Brownsville, PA. In 1962 he moved to the Washington, DC a rea to have a better life for him and his family. Steve worked various positions and worked long hours to eventually becoming an Executive Chef. Some of the luxury hotels he worked at were the Mayflower, the Sheraton Carlton, the Madison, the Ritz Carlton, the Omni Shoreham and retiring from the Double Tree Hotel in Pentagon City, VA.

Steve was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Marlene Kubicko. He is also survived by his four children, 2 daughter-in-laws and 2 son-in-laws. Diane and Andy, David and his wife, Catrina, Denise and Brian, and Douglas and his wife, Peggy.

He was blessed with his beautiful grandkids, Alexis, Stephen, Hailey, Andrew, Brittany, Tiffany, Acacia, Tylere, Dyannee, Zach, Chris, Anthony, Jessie and Mystri and great grandkids Sierra, Austin, Cyruss, Link and Wyatt. He is also survived by his good friends, Dan, Lee, Robert, Doug, Wilmer, Edwina and Sherry. He also had a dog named Muttley who was always so happy to see him.

Steve enjoyed many different things throughout his life. Shoes was one of his biggest. He must of had over 45 pairs. He also enjoyed coins, jewelry, yard sales, flea markets, gold, silver, fishing, metal detecting and watching sports. Steve also played the lottery everyday hoping to hit the big one. He loved conversing with everyone he came in contact with. As his wife would say, he was such a “social butterfly”.

Steve was looking forward to moving to Florida with his family. We were all excited about all the memories we were going to make. From taking him out on the boat to fish, to laying on the beach watching the women go by. As we all knew he loved to do.

So goodbye for now, Dad, until we meet again. We love you and will miss you so much.

I hope Mom didn’t beat you too hard with the broom when she saw you.
