Karen Lee Layton, born April 27, 1956, passed away on May 2, 2022 after a fierce battle with lung cancer. Her 66 beautiful years were distinguished by a life of laughter, prolific reading, her Catholic faith, and a strong love of animals.
Karen is survived by her two beloved children, Sarah Layton and Joseph Garrett, and her two younger siblings, Craig Layton and Laura Graham. As an animal lover, she is also survived by her three dogs and four cats.
Karen’s favorite flower was the yellow rose, a symbol of friendship. She will be remembered as a genuine friend to anyone in need. She was known for her listening ear to all who made their way onto her front porch, as she would talk with them for hours, laughing and sharing stories without any judgment.
A memorial service in her honor will take place on May 7th from 11 am - 1 pm at Gasch’s Funeral Home in Hyattsville, MD. A private burial will take place after the ceremony with immediate family only.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Hospice of the Chesapeake, who helped make her last days as comfortable as possible. In her honor, you may also consider donating to any local animal shelter of your choice.
