James Michael Mitchell of Huntington Beach, CA passed away on June 17 2020. Born on September 7, 1945 in Washington, DC to Clyde M. Mitchell and Anne I. Vander Heyden Mitchell. Jim was raised in Rogers Heights, MD and graduated from Bladensburg High School.
James was an Entrepreneur at heart owning several businesses in his career. He started by opening an insurance business, Temco, and moved into a manufacturing business within the sports card industry, Safeco Plastics Inc, then manufacturing furniture and gift accessory’s out of real golf clubs and golf balls, Fairway Furnishings, to manufacturing pogs and slammers, Spi Caps and finally retiring at the age of 54.
He is survived by his sons: James M. Mitchell, Jr. of Huntington Beach CA, Scott A Mitchell of Irvine CA and step daughter Vicki L Richardson of Tulsa OK. Grandchildren Angela Mitchell of Moorhead MN, Macie L Mitchell of Irvine CA, Hunter Richardson of Tulsa OK, Dakota Richardson of Tulsa OK and Kerstin P Richardson of Tulsa OK. Also survived by brothers: William and his wife Nancy Mitchell of Manassas, VA, John and wife Carylon Mitchell of White Plains, MD, Robert and his wife Catherine Mitchell of Heathsville, VA and Charles and his wife Margaret Mitchell of Sterling, VA.
Funeral and arrangements will be held at Gasch’s Funeral home in Hyattsville MD on Thursday June 25, 2020. There will be a viewing from 10-11:30am, service from 11:30-12:30pm and he will be laid to rest at Gate Of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Springs MD on Thursday June 25, 2020 at 2pm.
