Winston Oswald Pierre, also known as “Lax”, was born on August 8th, 1950, in Trinidad and Tobago, to Irene and Eugene Pierre. He was the youngest of his other siblings, John, Phyllis, and Gertrude, who are all deceased.
Winston attended high school in Trinidad before migrating to the United States. He lived in Philadelphia with his sister, Phyllis, and his niece, Ann, before moving to Washington, DC, where he attended the University of the District of Columbia. He was known for his boundless generosity and his kind spirit amongst his peers. Winston was always ready to lend a hand to those in need, often going out of his way to help friends, family and even strangers. Winston was a sports enthusiast. He enjoyed playing soccer, watching tennis, and loved doing his daily workouts at the gym.
Winston enlisted in the Army and upon leaving the Army he worked at the Bureau of Engraving and the Social Security Administration. However, his fascination with television led him to pursue a career in the television industry which he began at the Howard University Television Station (WHUT) and stayed until his retirement.
Throughout his life, Winston had a profound impact on everyone he met. He was a cherished member of his community. He loved playing the steel pan, (the national instrument of Trinidad and Tobago). His passion for playing the steel pan led him to participate in many cultural activities in the DMV area. Winston’s passion for enjoying life brought joy to those around him. He loved outdoors, just sitting in the sunlight appreciating and enjoying nature or going swimming at local indoor pools.
Winston’s sudden illness resulted in his admission to the VA Medical Hospital in Washington, DC where he was in the care of an esteemed medical team until his passing.
The family would like to thank the entire medical team and all who visited with him to offer their prayers and support during his illness.
He is survived by the Thompson family, the Jackson family and the Gordon family. His legacy of kindness and generosity will live on in the countless hearts of those he touched.
