Valerie Anne Cole

Valerie Anne (Day) Cole of Riverdale Park, Maryland, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on July 28th, 2025. Valerie was born December 4th, 1969 in Washington, DC to Francis Alton Day and Frances Anne (Parker) Day.

Valerie was a 1987 Graduate of Elizabeth Seton High School in Bladensburg, MD and pursued a career as a Union Service Rep with Union Plus for over 25 years and a proud union member of OPEIU Local 2.

She leaves behind the love of her life, Joseph Cole, who she spent 20 wonderful years with. Val also leaves behind her sons that she adored, Bob “Bob-Bob” Lilja (Christy) and Tyler Lilja (Bethani), and her K9 son, Juice.

She was a devout catholic at Saint Jerome’s Church in Hyattsville, Maryland. She was also an auxiliary member at the Knights of Columbus council 2809 in College Park,MD and former first lady to the council.

Val just loved life! She enjoyed camping, shuffleboard, Christmas, playing games and anything that involved her family.

Viewing services will be held at Gasch's Funeral Home in Hyattsville, MD Thursday July 31st from 4:00 to 8:00pm.

Funeral Mass will be held at St. Jerome’s Catholic Church in Hyattsville, MD on  Friday, August 1st at 11am with Visitation starting at 10am

Interment at Mt. Olivet in Washington, DC following the Mass. There will be a repass held at the Knights of Columbus #2809 in College Park.

Donations can be made in Valerie’s name to her alma mater, Elizabeth Seton High School, 5715 Emerson Street, Bladensburg, MD 20710.
