Susan Corioni Hanrahan was born on May 18, 1957, in Washington, D.C., to Eugene D. Corioni, Sr. (dec), and Lessie O. Corioni (dec). Her grandparents were Andrea Corioni (dec) of Washington, D.C. and Susie Fiore (dec) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Mary Pitts (dec) and Woodrow Hulett (dec) of Macon, Georgia. Sue would later become the big sister to Gilda and Eugene Jr. Sue was baptized at St. John Baptist de la Salle Catholic Church in Chillum, Maryland. She attended St. John’s for grades first through eighth, and then Rollingcrest Junior High and High Point High School, where she graduated in 1975, for grades ninth through twelfth. 

Sue attended the University of Maryland College Park from 1975 to 1979 and was awarded with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Secondary Education.

Her first job was teaching fifth grade at St. John’s from September 1979 to June of 1980. From August 1980 to December 1986, she was Assistant to the Dean, School of Religious Studies at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. 

She met her husband Thomas Hanrahan in 1985, and they were married on December 27, 1986, at St. John Baptist de la Salle Catholic Church in Chillum, MD. They moved first to Portsmouth, Virginia and then to Chesapeake, Virginia. They later had two children, Jennifer (dec), and Rebecca. 

Once settled in, Sue obtained a secretarial/administrative assistant position with Kelly Services in Norfolk in 1987.

From August 1989 to June 1992, Sue was a Library Assistant at the Learning Resource Center, Moorman Memorial Library at the Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk. In September of 1993 she continued her time at the Eastern Virginia Medical School, this time as a library assistant in the Public Services Department, Brickell Medical Sciences Library. She remained in the latter position until October 2001.

Her love for books, reading, and research helped fuel her desire to obtain a master’s degree in Library Science from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. in December 2002. She continued to hold several more jobs over the years, including, a tutor at Indian River Middle School, a Teacher Assistant at Camelot Elementary School and a Librarian for the ITT Technical Institute and the Virginia Beach Public Library System. 

In addition, she was a member and volunteer of the Virginia Library Association, and the Special Libraries Association. As a result of her dedication, she received the Virginia Beach Public Library PIE Award, which recognizes individuals with outstanding passion, innovation and excellence.

Sue loved the Lord and slept with a rosary under her pillow every night. She was a devout Catholic and volunteer at her church, the church of St. Therese, in Chesapeake, VA, where she was a Eucharist minister, lector, and volunteer in the church office. 

Her favorite food was grandma’s chicken and dumplings, and she preferred to have ice cream for dessert. Some of her favorite TV shows were I Love Lucy, All Creatures Great and Small and Downton Abbey. As for movies, she loved Top Gun and The Sound of Music. In addition, her favorite color was purple. 

Sue is survived by her husband Thomas, her daughter Rebecca, her sister Gilda, her brother Eugene Jr., Aunt Florence Callejas and cousin Andrea Callejas, her nephew, Steven Corioni, Cousins Tammy (John) Gonzales, and Lisa (Mark) Kirkpatrick, her mother-in-law Barbara Hanrahan, four loving sisters-in-laws Cathy Hanrahan, Janet Weise, Lynne Hanrahan and Maura (Steve ) Mountain, aunts, uncles, cousins and many lifelong friends. 

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in her memory to Church of St. Therese, 4137 Portsmouth Blvd, Chesapeake, VA 23321 or to Crohn's and Colitis Foundation (Link provided below).
