Sister Marianna Piecyk

September 26, 1930 — April 25, 2026

Hyattsville

It is with deep faith in the Resurrection and with gratitude for a life wholly dedicated to God that we announce the passing of Sister Marianna Piecyk, SSMI, who was called to the Lord on April 25, 2026.

Sister Marianna was born on September 26, 1930, in Poland. As the eldest of her siblings, she grew up with a strong sense of responsibility, shaped by family life and the hardships of World War II.

At the age of eighteen, she entered the Congregation of the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate in 1948, beginning her formation in Poland. She professed her first vows on July 26, 1955, consecrating her life entirely to God.

Sister Marianna's apostolic life was marked by courage, simplicity, and deep trust in Divine Providence. She served as a catechist in Poland during a particularly difficult time for the Church, when communist government regulations forbade religious sisters from teaching religion. Though repeatedly summoned for questioning and even ordered to report to prison, she remained steadfast and did not yield to intimidation.

In 1971, she was sent to Hereford, England, where she ministered among the Polish community until 1978. In 1979, she came to the United States, serving at St. Joseph's Nursing Home in Catonsville, Maryland, and later for eighteen years at a preschool in Baltimore, until its closure in 2003.

In October 2003, Sister Marianna was assigned to the convent in Hyattsville, Maryland, where she continued to serve at Sacred Heart Home, generously assisting in the care of the elderly for many years. When her health gradually deteriorated, she was admitted to Sacred Heart Home in February 2026, where her final weeks were spent in peace, receiving attentive and loving care from the dedicated staff. On Saturday, April 25, 2026, surrounded by her sisters, she passed to the Lord at the age of 95. We trust she entered eternal life the way she had lived her religious life — in the company of her sisters, in peace, and in the embrace of our loving God and our Blessed Mother.

Those who knew Sister Marianna remember her as a quiet yet courageous sister — deeply faithful, hardworking, and guided by profound trust in God. We give thanks to Almighty God for her long and faithful religious life. May the Lord, whom she served with such devotion, grant her eternal rest and the joy of His presence.

"Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her."

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Home, Inc.
