Dr. Nasser Movassaghi, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, passed away peacefully in his home in Potomac, MD, surrounded by his wife and daughters.
Nasser was born in Mashhad, Iran and raised in Tehran. After finishing Medical school in Tehran, he came to the United States (New Jersey, Honolulu and Los Angeles) to complete his training. Nasser spent over 35 years treating and caring for children in the Hematology and Oncology department at The Children’s Hospital of D.C. He saved hundreds of children and trained multiple new generations of physicians.
Nasser was known for his quiet and modest nature. Always very caring, giving and generous, helping out family and friends when he could but never wanting praise or recognition.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Jaleh Movassaghi, his daughters, Roxanne Gravat (Jim) and Mina Vasquez (Albert), grandchildren, Stephanie Cooper, Caitlin Cooper, Michael Vasquez, Deanna Mincemeyer, Chloe Vasquez, great-grandchildren, Connor and Kira Mincemeyer, stepdaughters, Nooshen Amiri-Hutton (Michael) and Sherin Amiri, step-grandchildren, Cole Hutton, Graham Hooker, Chase Hutton and Ellie Hooker.
Nasser was one of six siblings and he is survived by his loving sister, Mahin Malak, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Nasser requested no large ceremonies to be held in his honor. A small private gathering to celebrate his life is to be held.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma society to honor his life’s work.
