She was born on August 10 1962 in Chilanga Morazán El Salvador , to Pedro Benitez and Maria Elisa Benitez Flores . She was the second of seven children. Mercedes , also known as “Meche.” or Canecha by her siblings. At the age of 19, she left the country to Spain. In 1983 at age of 20 she had her first daughter Zulma Benitez in Spain. In 1984 at aged 21, she went back to El Salvador pregnant of her second son Javier Benitez born in Morazon El Salvador. In 1985 she migrated to USA to support her children. Then met Modesto Villatoro who she married to and in 1989 aged 26, had her third child Ingrid Villatoro Benitez (her baby)born in Washington DC. She always bragged about having 3 children from 3 different nationalities.
In 1992 she went back to Salvador with legal status to pick up her two-children to finally to be united together. In June 2000 , she became a proud USA citizens.
She was the first family member to paved the way for families and friends to migrate and legalize their status in the USA. She also went above and beyond and offered shelter for them to get on their feet’s.
She worked to bring her family to the United States of America for a better life. Mercedes was very outgoing hardworking and loved exploring and going on adventures. She was devoted, mother, sister, aunt , cousin, grandmother and a friend. Mercedes always had the ability to make anyone laugh. Mercedes is survived by her daughter Zulma Benitez , her son Javier Benitez ,third daughter Ingrid Benitez, 7 grandchildren, siblings and parents.
