Mary Loretta Currie, age 91, of Hyattsville, Md., formerly of Farmington Hills, passed away on Nov. 11, 2017, after a long illness. Mary devoted her life to God through her Catholic faith and the teaching and nurturing of children. She was born in Hamtramck, the daughter of the late Dominick and Stella Korvatsky. Having earned a bachelor's degree in education from Wayne State University and a master's degree in English from the University of Detroit, she taught in the Detroit Public Schools for 10 years until retiring to raise her family. For 47 years, she was the beloved wife of the late J. Howard Currie. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Jane Korvatsky. She was the devoted mother of Christopher (Susan) Currie of Hyattsville; John (Ann) Currie of Ann Arbor, Marie (Timothy) Marvin of Livonia; Joseph Currie of Washington, D.C.; and Therese (Edward) Tirador of Hyattsville. She was the cherished grandmother of 14. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Jerome Catholic Church in Hyattsville at 11 a.m., Nov. 22, with viewing and visitation immediately prior. Interment will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Washington, D.C.
