Martha Mistichelli, 76, of Glenn Dale, MD, passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2022, at her home surrounded by her husband of 57 years and her loving family and friends.
Visitation will be at 9:00am on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, followed by a Mass of the Resurrection at 11:00am, both at St. Jerome’s Church in Hyattsville, MD. Interment services will follow at George Washington cemetery in Adelphi, MD, followed immediately by a luncheon at St. Jerome’s Gold Room. For those not attending the interment service, food and beverages will be available in the Gold Room before the luncheon is served. Arrangements are by Gasch’s Funeral Home in Hyattsville, MD
Martha was born in Prince George’s County, MD to Benjamin and Ruth Sanders on December 13, 1945. she married Roberto Mistichelli on February 19, 1966. She worked as an administrative assistant for the U.S. Department of Agriculture for four years before discovering her true love as an educator; Martha was a teacher in the Early Childhood Program at St. Martin’s in Washington, D.C. followed by her many years at St. Jerome’s School in Hyattsville, MD. After retiring as a fulltime teacher, she worked at the St. Jerome’s Early Childhood Program and volunteered as a CCD teacher at Ascension Catholic Church in Bowie, MD. Martha also had her real estate license and worked in that field for five years. She would volunteer and help whenever needed, especially if it involved children. She was a volunteer softball coach for many years and was the recipient of the CYO Coach of the Year for the Archdiocese of Washington DC.
Martha is preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin F. and Ruth Sanders; sister, Elizabeth Jean Sanders; brother, Benjamin Sanders; brother-in-law, Mario Mistichelli; sister-in-law, Olga Mistichelli Berkeley and her nephews, Gino Mistichelli and Cesare Durante.
Martha is survived by her loving husband Roberto; daughter, Dona Mistichelli; son Roberto (Michelle) Mistichelli, Jr.; granddaughter, Ashley Mistichelli; grandsons, Andrew and Mike Mistichelli; Sisters-in-Law, Elvira (Enrico Ridolfi) Mistichelli, Iolanda Mistichelli and Ruth Sanders; brother-in-Laws, Orlando (Bonnie) Mistichelli and James (Ellen) Berkeley; Nephews, Benjamin J. Sanders; Elia (Catia) Ridolfi; Jamie Berkeley; Nieces, Aurora Ridolfi, Angela Mistichelli (Tony) Clemente, Lea (Cesare Quaranta) Mistichelli, Christine Mistichelli, Donna (Paul) Berkeley and Becky Berkeley as well as dearly loved great nieces and nephews.
