Lynn A. Lappin

Lynn Allyson (Hough) Lappin, 74, of Berwyn Heights, Maryland, passed peacefully into our Savior’s loving embrace August 7, 2026. Born June 10, 1952, and raised in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, Lynn joined her loving husband John Lappin in Holy Matrimony on March 19,1977, and thereafter resided with him and their family in Berwyn Heights.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, John, her sons, Brian Lappin (Hilary), Justin Lappin (Erin), and Jonathan Lappin (Allyson Lenoci), and her eight grandchildren: Colin and Ava; Finnegan, Harrison, and Frederick; and Nathaniel, Charlotte, and Lillian. She is also survived by her sister, Janet Montgomery (Tom), and sister-in-law, Rita O’Connor. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Carline Hough.

Following her 1970 graduation from Central High School in Capitol Heights, Maryland, Lynn entered public service at 18, spending almost 50 years in the U.S Government. She first worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture before making a mid-career move to the U.S. Department of Justice from which she retired in 2020. Throughout her career, Lynn loved her frequent shopping and lunch forays with friends and colleagues.

Lynn’s greatest joy was her family. She embraced the craziness of running a household composed exclusively of boys with vigor, making their welfare her life’s mission. Lynn went to countless baseball games and on innumerable camping trips - not out of love for those activities but because she loved participating in them with her family. As her family grew Lynn brought that same devotion to her grandchildren, spoiling them with gifts and attention while taking great pleasure in finding that perfect gift no matter the occasion.

An avid reader, she would find moments of quiet by reading multiple novels simultaneously. As a lifelong music lover, concerts thrilled her, especially seeing the Beatles, Paul McCartney, and the Beach Boys, and once catching a guitar pick tossed to her by Chicago’s lead guitarist. Her most treasured memories were family trips to the beach, Disney World, and the Rockies, and with John to Italy, Ireland, Vermont and the Napa Valley.

Above all, Lynn will be remembered for her enormous love of her family. She was a devoted wife, a fiercely loving mother, a proud grandmother, and a friend who brought her energy and personality wherever she went. Her love was generous, protective, and unwavering, and the family she cherished so deeply will carry that love with them always.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, September 11th, 11:00 a.m., with a reception to follow, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church located at 16501 Annapolis Road, Bowie, Maryland, 20715. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Lynn’s name to The Parkinson Foundation.
