Leona May Shrewsbury

Leona Shrewsbury of Cottage City, Maryland, passed away on July 25th, 2023 with her family by her side. Leona was born in McComas, West Virginia on October 23, 1940.

Leona and Arnold moved to Cottage City in 1960. Leona was a homemaker, wonderful neighbor, and mom to many on the block. She was also a lifetime member of the Cottage City/Colmar Manor Fire Department.

She was a wonderful wife, mother, and MawMaw who always put her family first. 

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, William Shrewsbury, her daughters Arlene Malpasso (Tony), Marlene Loor (Jimmy - deceased), Tammy Cunha (Joe), Becky Lacey (James).  She is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Candace, Anthony, Kristen, Kevin, Joe, Lucy, Daniel, Josh, Jordon, Jacob, and Destiny, and by 12 great grandchildren: Alaina, James, Ethan, Lily, Violet, Lucas, Christian, Aurora, Annabelle, Jordon Jr, Madeleine, and Jaxon, and many loving friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Bertha Poore, her children, Billy and Mary, her son-in-law Jimmy, and many other loved ones.

A viewing will be held at Gasch's Funeral Home, 4739 Baltimore Avenue, Hyattsville, MD on Friday, July 28th, 2023 from 6 to 8 pm, A service will be held at Gasch's on Saturday, July 29th, from 10 to 11 am.  Burial will follow immediately after at Ft. Lincoln Cemetery, Bladensburg Road, Brentwood, Maryland.  Repast will follow after burial at the Cottage City Town Hall.
