Judith Lokerson passed away peacefully on February 23, 2024 following a brief illness. She was the beloved wife to Donald Custis Lokerson for 57 years, mother of Susan Lokerson Ireland and Mary Custis Rusten (Michael) and grandmother to Matthew, Monica, and Marcus Rusten. She was born in Amherst, Mass to Stetson and Mary Alice Conn, and raised in Arlington, VA. Older sister to Margie Annis (Ralph). Step-daughter to the late Benny Conn and step-sister to the late Margaret Auñón. Was a sister-in-law proceeded in death by Jean Lokerson, David Lokerson, Doris Lokerson Walter, and Robert Lokerson (Winifred), Sister-in law to Nancy Lokerson and Henry Walter (Dorothy).
Judy graduated from W & L High School in Arlington, VA, and Stanford University with a BA in English. She met her beloved husband Donald while in Chemistry class at GW University in Washington, DC. Having heard about triplets from Chevy Chase, MD, she had first met Doris, who introduced her to her identical twin brothers. Donald invited Judy to an Engineering picnic, and the rest is history – Don and Judy became inseparable.
After Donald was employed by Goddard Space Flight Center, they became longtime residents of New Carrollton, MD. Judy was thrilled to be married to her ‘Rocket Man’, and worked closely with his interests. She assisted him with his passion of developing an independent speaker system. When Donald developed FSH Muscular Dystrophy, they joined a support group and attended many conventions.
Judy was devoted to Girl Scouts, through the years she has been a scout, a longtime Brownie leader, trainer, mentor, and supporter. Last year she received her 55 year pin. She learned sign language after realizing many in her community were deaf so that she could interpret for them. She also had a love of music, especially at the Church of the Epiphany in Washington, DC, which she attended for more than 60 years.
Her memorial service will be held at the Church of the Epiphany, 1317 G St., NW on Sunday, June 2, 2024 at 12:30pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to FSH Society, 450 Bedford St., Lexington, MA 02420 or to the Church of the Epiphany, 1317 G. St., NW, Washington, DC 20005.
