Joseph M. Van Daniker (1942–2024)

We are celebrating our always optimistic, dependable, and loving patriarch of this family, Joseph M. Van Daniker, 81, of Annapolis, MD, who passed-on March 23, 2024.

Joe was born in Baltimore in 1942 to James & Margaret Van Daniker. He had fond memories of his parents growing up in the city.  Joe would share stories about the fun times he would have with his siblings, which would sometimes aggravate his parents :-).  Although Joe lost his Mom at a young age, his attitude toward life was consistently positive. He attended school and worked as a teenager before joining the U.S. Army.  He was honorably discharged, and after various jobs, Joe found his love of sales.  He became a successful entrepreneur.

Joe met his soulmate, Linda, in the mid 1970s. They met while working at the same company in Hyattsville, MD.  Joe always said that he was the city mouse and Linda was the country mouse :-). They became a couple in 1974 and married in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1976.

Joe had 4 children: Ron, Mike, Joey and Michelle.  He had 8 grandchildren, Priscilla, Jason, Julia, Ronnie, Eliana, Joey, Sonny and Vinny.  He treasured all his children and grandchildren. Having furry kids was one of Joe’s treasures as well.  He loved spending time with his most recent furry kid, Tinkerbell.

Joe was very passionate about business.  Along with Linda, he owned his own fundraising company for nearly 30 years.  After the fundraising business, being the ever adapting, dedicated businessman that he was, Joe (Papa Joe, as known to many) started successfully selling home improvements and did so until he left us. Joe came to Christ later in life. Although raised Catholic, Joe became a born-again Christian in his elder age.  He was baptized in the summer of 2023.  He participated in Bible Studies with his oldest son, Ron, over the last year and a half.
Joe will be remembered for his unfailing optimism, willingness to help, generosity to countless people and love for his family. We’ll always recall hearing him say “Never die, Joe, never die!”.  Although he meant something a little different when he first coined that phrase, we’re blessed to know he now lives with Christ!

Joe was truly one of a kind.  He lived a full life and so many of us are just blessed that we were in it.  We will miss his sense of humor, dependability, resilient approach to life and loving care. Joe was preceded in death by his first wife, Julie Rosso, siblings, Raymond Don Van Daniker, James “Tick” Van Daniker and Margie Van Daniker Cerino. He is survived by his above mentioned spouse, Linda, children and grandchildren.
