John Kenneth Feeney, age 54, was born at Prince George’s Hospital on July 23, 1971, 5 minutes after his twin brother Robert Joseph (deceased). John was a tender-hearted, genuine article, unique in every way.
John Kenneth loved the friends he made growing up in Mount Rainier, Maryland where he lived in or near most of his life. His grandparents, James Thomas (deceased) and Irene (Redington) Feeney (deceased) raised John and his brothers to be proud of their Irish roots, love big band music, baseball, and live by the tenets of the Roman Catholic Church.
John graduated from Northwestern High School in Hyattsville, Maryland in 1989. Rooted in the old neighborhood but throughout his life, John made a crew of long-lasting, special friends like Krista (Story) Newgent, Will and Christy Flippo, Kirk Balthazar, Wayne Boyd, Bridget Cavanagh, Aaron Kroll, Darrell Colea and Jason Robertson.
After school, John had a variety of jobs including working at John C. Flood, Dominos Pizza, and Midway Florist. He married Amber (Daugherty) Pinto (divorced) and landed a job he loved with the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration. John was always up on the latest news, reading the newspaper regularly with a special focus on his beloved Washington Redskins (now Commanders – boy did he hate the new name). Keeping up with every detail regardless of their record.
He also loved music, clinging to his CD collection long past most of us, and would enjoy some good bluegrass, old school country, or 70s/80s rock. He wasn’t too embarrassed to sing a karaoke song or two at S&Js when it was still around.
On regular visits to his aunt and uncle’s house (Mary Ann and Gary Smullen) he was always up for a good game of cornhole or horseshoes. He also loved animals, especially (after the passing of his own dog Blarney) his dog-niece Lily who he would regularly serenade with her own special song.
In addition to those listed above, John is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Gertrude and Frank Fones, father James Martin Feeney, mother Linda (Fones) Feeney and several aunts, uncles, and extended family.
John is survived by his God children Liam Kroll and Jayda Robertson, Mary Ann Smullen (aunt), Gary Smullen (uncle), Frank Fones (uncle), older brother James Martin Feeney, Jr., and sister-in-law Peggy Bailey.
We will miss John’s deep laugh, glowing smile, and enormous bear hugs.
