Peacefully and gently on Friday, May 30, 2025, Almighty God, by his infinite grace and mercy, gently cradled and gently released the sweet essence of life of my beloved Mother, Jeroline Davis. As she was enveloped in God’s loving arms, she transcends the flesh into spirit, joyously entering heaven’s gate. Affectionally known as Jerry to many, she was born to the late Bertha Glenn Walton and the late Lee Bell, Jr. in Union, South Carolina on April 17, 1942. She spent her early years in Union, attending Union County Elementary School while being cared for by her late Uncle Wank and his wife. After her uncle’s passing, she moved in 1952 to Philadelphia with her mother and joined Tenth Memorial Baptist Church, where she met her best friend, the late Annette Culmer, as members of the children’s church and choir. In 1960, Jeroline graduated from Bok Vocational Technical School. In February 1966, Jeroline married the late Melvin Leon Davis. To this union, God brought their daughter, Yvette. Jeroline always spoke fondly of her first job as a salesgirl at the cosmetic and candy counter at S.S. Kresge. She and her co workers remained lifelong friends after she left in 1971. She enjoyed working with people and helping others, and was truly passionate and gifted in service to others. To use these skills, she joined the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as an Income Maintenance Worker, which was social work for those without degrees. Dedicated to helping those in the community, she worked there for 30 years until her retirement in 2002. In retirement, Jeroline followed her passions, taking art classes, playing the slots, crocheting, volunteering with the Red Cross, and line dancing with senior groups that performed at nursing homes and senior communities in Philadelphia.
Throughout her life, Jeroline was a warrior, never allowing her health challenges to quench her zest for life. She and Yvette were very close and jointly decided to move her to Maryland in 2023. Her Philadelphia friends as well as her faith and conviction in God lifted her spirits as she transitioned to long term care in Silver Spring. Those who will treasure their memories: Yvette; half-sister Phyllis Bell; cousin Robert Bess; cherished life-long high school friends from Philadelphia; Rose and Wanda Coston; Susie Spodek; and many caring relatives and friends who have loved and supported her in so many wonderful ways.
