James C. Beer

September 24, 1943 — November 25, 2022

Berkeley Springs, WV

On Friday, November 25th, 2022, of Berkeley Springs, WV, age 79. Loving husband of 60 years to Patricia Beer (Arbogast). Loving father of Kathy (Steve) Mack, of Davidsonville, MD, and Michelle (Robert) Nelson, of Edgewater, MD. “Pop” of Melissa (Chris) Mack, Matthew (Jessie) Mack, Jake and Julia Nelson and “Pop Pop” of Trace and Baby Girl Mack (Leigh Ann, born January 25, 2023). He is also survived by his siblings, Anna Lee (Stanton) Given, Tommy (Lidia) Beer and Rick (Cathy) Beer as well as by several nieces, nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gale and Genevieve Beer (Riffle), and his brother, Edwin (Judy) Beer.

Jim worked for Levitt Homes of Bowie starting in the mid 60’s. He owned his own construction business for years doing mainly new residential construction. He drove a tractor trailer for North American for a couple years before returning to construction again working with his son-in-law, Steve. Jim and his wife lived in Maryland for the majority of their lives before retiring in Berkeley Springs, WV. He loved to “hunt” (which meant he would sit in the woods and just hold his gun). He would go to McDonalds where he joined the guys as they drank their morning coffee and shared their stories. He would plant a little garden and tend to it through the season enjoying the fresh vegetables he harvested.

There will be no service as this was his wish. Instead, remember him as the husband, dad, pop, pop pop and friend he was as we deal with the huge void his passing has left behind.

The family would like to thank Jim and Pat’s neighbor, Steve Buser, who helped get Jim in and out of the car so he could go to his numerous doctor’s appointments, he would sit with Jim so Pat could go to the grocery store, he took her car and put gas in it, blew the leaves around the house, mowed their grass and would drop everything just to lend a hand. We could never thank him enough.
