Gregory Vincent Gigliotti

Gregory "Greg" Vincent Gigliotti, 72, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2026, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Born on December 18, 1953, Greg lived a life defined by service, integrity, and unwavering devotion to his family, friends, and community. He believed deeply in faith, hard work, and helping others. Whether serving his country, protecting his community, mentoring others, or caring for his loved ones, Greg lived with purpose and left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

After graduating from Parkdale Senior High School in 1972, Greg attended Prince George's County Community College until receiving his draft notice later that summer. He answered the call to serve by joining the 223rd Military Intelligence Company in Gaithersburg, Maryland, and soon entered active military service. Over an extraordinary 42-year military career spanning the United States Army, Army Reserve, and Army National Guard, Greg proudly served his country with distinction. His service included four overseas deployments to Germany, Bosnia, and twice to Kosovo. He concluded his military career as the Senior Warrant Officer Advisor for the Military Intelligence Branch of the Army National Guard, stationed at Fort Huachuca, Arizona. In recognition of his exceptional leadership and dedication, he attained the rank of Chief Warrant Officer Five (CW5), the highest warrant officer rank in the Army, before retiring on June 2, 2015.

While faithfully serving in the military, Greg simultaneously built a remarkable career with the Prince George's County Fire Department. Beginning in 1980, he dedicated 28 years to protecting the citizens of Prince George's County, retiring in 2008 as a Fire Captain. Throughout his career, he served in numerous assignments, including the Office of Fire Prevention and Investigation, where his knowledge, professionalism, and commitment to public safety earned him the respect of his colleagues and community alike.

His military career and fire service never interfered with his commitment to serving others. He remained deeply involved in his community and was honored to serve as Commander of Greenbelt American Legion Post 136, President of the Greenbelt Volunteer Fire Department where he fostered a spirit of service and camaraderie.

Above all else, Greg treasured his family. He found his greatest happiness in spending time with those he loved. He was a gifted craftsman who always seemed to have another project underway—building, repairing, restoring, or improving something with his own two hands. More recently, he found peace tending his garden, where he enjoyed watching the fruits of his labor grow. Greg also possessed a remarkable artistic talent and a creative spirit. He had a deep passion for photography, drawing, and painting, finding joy in capturing both the beauty of the world around him and the people he loved most. One of his final and most treasured works was a portrait of his beloved late wife, Kathy.

Those who knew Greg will remember his willingness to help anyone in need, his meticulous attention to detail, and his unmistakable way of doing things. If you worked alongside him, you likely received a thorough set of instructions before getting started. He appreciated things being neat and orderly and firmly believed in the philosophy, "Work hard, play hard."

Greg's greatest legacy is the example he set through a lifetime of service, generosity, loyalty, and love. He believed in showing up for others, lending a hand whenever it was needed, and making his family and community stronger because he was part of them. His kindness, wisdom, humor, and steadfast presence will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all whose lives he touched.

Greg was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kathleen Gigliotti; his parents, Vincent and Rita Gigliotti; and other loved ones who welcomed him home.

He is lovingly survived by his children, Anthony Gigliotti (his wife Sarah) and Jake Gigliotti (his wife Lindsey); Craig May; siblings, Vinny Gigliotti (his wife Joan) and Steve Gigliotti; grandchildren, Ryan May, Joshua May, Andrew Gigliotti, Owen Gigliotti, Anthony Gigliotti, Emilia Gigliotti, and Gianna Gigliotti; nephews, Gabriel Gigliotti and Nicholas Gigliotti; niece, Sophia Dippel; along with many extended family members.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Greenbelt American Legion Post 136, Greenbelt Volunteer Fire Department or to a veterans or lung cancer charity of the donor's choice, in Greg's memory.
