George Enoch Story

George Enoch Story, 82, of University Park, Maryland, died peacefully at home on October 20, 2026. Born October 26, 1943, in Providence, Rhode Island, he was the son of Professor Enoch Francis Story and Evelyn Story, née Horne.

He grew up in his University Park home from the age of seven and raised his family there. George attended Woodward Prep School in Washington, DC and studied at the University of Maryland.

George was a man who took pride in working with his hands and ensuring things ran correctly. As the owner of AutoWorks in Beltsville, Maryland, he spent decades doing what he loved: solving problems and fixing things with his own two hands. The high-quality service he delivered and his steadfast commitment to his customers made George a respected member of the local business community.

That same love of working with his hands carried over into his free time. George was happiest tending to his garden or restoring vintage cars. Whether nurturing his hydrangeas to bloom or bringing a ’64 Chevy Nova back to life, he had a gift for making things flourish.

Nothing mattered more to him than his family. He was a devoted grandfather. His five grandchildren, Hannah, Mattie, Jonah, Evelyn, and Payton, were the lights of his life, and he treasured the time he spent with them.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Grace Schaeffer Story and is survived by his daughters, Krista Story Newgent (Mark) and Robin Story, and his five grandchildren.

George will be remembered for his hard work, his practical skill, and the love he gave so freely to those around him. The lessons he taught and the memories he made will continue to comfort all who knew him.

A memorial gathering will be held at Gasch's Funeral Home, 4739 Baltimore Avenue in Hyattsville, Maryland on November 14th from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
