Eugenio “Gino” Velazquez, age 52, of Hyattsville, MD, passed away Saturday, December 25th, 2021. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Jocelyn; children, Victor and Matthew; mother, Raquel Velazquez; sisters, Susana Kennedy, Neida Velazquez, and Zoraida Velazquez; niece, Marisa Filipovic; cousin, Dana Duran, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Preceding him in death was his father, Eugenio Velazquez, his aunt, Georgina Duran, and cousin, Ernesto Duran.
Gino was a loving, kind, humorist and a proud dedicated public servant until his death. He recently retired after serving 32 years as a member of the Office of Protection Services at the National Gallery of Art where he achieved the rank of Sergeant. An avid outdoors person, Gino was either heading out to fish, swim, or cycle. When not outside, he was an enthusiastic chef who loved to cook with his sons and roast the occasional pig while listening to his favorite music. He never passed up a moment to share a good movie or play video games with his sons.
A Visitation will be held on Friday, December 31st, 2021 between 10:00 am and 2:00pm at Gasch’s Funeral Home, P.A. in Hyattsville, MD. A Remembrance Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 1st, 2022 at 1:00 pm at St. Jerome Catholic Church in Hyattsville, MD.
Light refreshments will be served immediately after mass in the Gold Room.
