Edward "Ted" Tyler

January 25, 1934 — December 6, 2025

Cheverly

Edward Wade “Ted” Tyler, of Cheverly, MD, passed away at the age of 91 years on December 6, 2025. He was born on January 25, 1934 to Edward and May (Robertson) Tyler. He was the only son of six children.

Ted is pre-deceased by his wife of 42 years, Kathryn Metz; his son, Edward; and his five sisters Janet Cornwell, Shirley Gawler, Barbara Skidmore, Mary Frances Tyler, and Rose Schnieder.

He is survived by seven children Daniel Tyler (Wendy Aldridge) of Stevensville, MD, Teresa Corcoran (Thomas) of Edgewater, MD, Diane Grenchik (Thomas) of Riverdale, MD, Stephen Tyler of Gloucester, MA, Kristy Brewer (Barry) of Stirling, VA, Karyn Black (Steven) of Camp Springs, MD, and Kelli Tyler of Cheverly, MD; twelve grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Ted grew up in Northern Virginia working on various farms where his family lived. He loved to reminisce about working alongside his father, grandfather and uncles performing the farm chores, managing the animals on the dairy farms and working the crops.

He served in the Army during the Korean conflict in the 3rd Armor Division, 761 Tank Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division and 44th Tank Battalion. He achieved the rank of Sergent before separating from service after four years. He went on to work in the field of engineering as a draftsman, mechanical engineer, configuration and logistics management for satellite communication on military and commercial projects, including the shuttle space program with NASA.

Ted worked hard most of his life either on the farm or to support his growing family. He enjoyed photography from his early adult years, setting up his own dark room in the basement of the house and serving as the “official” family photographer documenting all of the holidays, sporting and club activities, vacations, and just everyday shenanigans. He always had a camera around his neck or in his pocket. Ted supported all the children’s and grandchildren’s sports throughout the years either by coaching or cheering from the sidelines. After retirement, Ted became an amateur genealogist, researching different family branches; and cleaning/restoring family cemeteries. He was a contributor on Find-A-Grave.com fulfilling requests to provide photographs of graves in area cemeteries, including Arlington National Cemetery.
