Charlene Brock Dean passed peacefully on September 13, 2025. She resided in Bowie, Maryland at the time of her death but, had resided in Glenn Dale, Maryland for the previous 55 years.
Charlene was born in Fort Smith, Arkansas on April 6, 1927. As an only child she was adored by her father, Carl Delphin Brock, and her mother, Mattierae Herbert Brock. She migrated to Washington, DC and eventually began china painting. Due to excellence in china painting, she became the first president of the International China Painting Teacher’s Association of the Metropolitan area of Washington, DC. This inspired her to share her knowledge and expertise also in Arkansas, where she was born. As a result, Governor of Arkansas, Winthrop Rockefeller, presented her with the Goodwill Ambassador Award in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
She later applied her creative talents elsewhere becoming a stained glass artist, porcelain doll and Christmas ornaments designer, bow maker, bobbin lace maker, a superb gardener and culinarian, just to name a few. She was always willing to share her knowledge with anyone eager to learn. She and her husband Kenneth Dean enjoyed many years of ballroom dancing and cruising with their dancing group.
Charlene was preceded in death by her husbands, Cleveland Boswell of Black Creek, North Carolina, who was killed in WWII and later Kenneth Allen Dean of Cass, Arkansas. She leaves behind her daughter, Beverly Rae Goines of Easton, Maryland, two granddaughters Abigail Marie Hargrave of Annapolis, Maryland and Lisa Darlene Goines of Ellicott City, Maryland. Charlene also leaves behind her three cherished great grandsons Benjamin Brock Hargrave, Samuel Dean Hargrave and Charles Henry Hargrave.
Her viewing is Thursday September 18, 2025 at Gasch’s Funeral Home 4739 Baltimore Avenue Hyattsville, Maryland from 10 AM to noon. Burial is at 1 PM at Maryland National Memorial Park 1330 Washington Boulevard Laurel, Maryland.
