It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Brendan Lawrence Haggerty, who left this world following a stroke on May 20, 2025. He was surrounded by his family during his final days. Brendan was 92 years old.

Brendan was born on March 23, 1933 in the Bronx, New York, the beloved son of Lawrence Joseph Haggerty and Cecilia Marie Sullivan. He was preceded in death by his dear brother, Robert Joseph Haggerty. Brendan is survived by his devoted wife, Evelyn Haggerty, with whom he shared 53 wonderful years of marriage, having united in love on August 7, 1971, in Newport, Rhode Island.

Brendan's legacy will survive well-beyond his passing. He and Evelyn created a beautiful family in which he took an immense amount of pride. He is survived by his two daughters, Mary McCarthy and her husband Ed McCarthy, and Shaleen Corder and her husband Chris Corder. Brendan doted on his five grandchildren: Katie Corder, CJ Corder, Maddie Corder, Erin McCarthy, and Arya McCarthy. Each grandchild brought him joy and laughter, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

Brendan's educational journey began at a young age when he joined the Marist Brothers at age 14. His passion for learning and teaching led him to instructing Latin and coaching basketball at Mount St. Michael, and eventually rising to the position of school principal at Our Lady of Lourdes in New York. His dedication to education was only a precursor to a life devoted to serving others.

Brendan made the decision to pursue a different calling outside of the brotherhood, and while pursuing his Masters at Catholic University he met the love of his life, Evy. This new journey allowed him to intertwine a cherished family life while continuing his vocation to help people and support his community. He served as the director of planned giving for The American Red Cross, impacting countless lives through his compassionate work.Upon retirement from the Red Cross, Brendan's commitment to service did not wane. He remained an active member of the St. Ambrose Parish and held the honor of President of the Saint Vincent De Paul Society, continually giving back to the community he loved.

Brendan was affectionately known as "Gampi", "Mr. H" or "Momo" to those who loved him, and he was renowned for his vibrant personality and love of storytelling. He had a knack for humor and could always make those around him laugh with a good joke or a captivating tale. His love of sports and animals, especially horses and dogs, was evident in how he spent his leisure time; he enjoyed attending horse races, watching basketball games, and spending time with his loyal pups, Ginger & Prince. He especially loved bending the ears of his neighbors and catching up with his former students and basketball players.

A loving husband, a devoted father, a proud grandfather, and a guiding light in his community, Brendan Lawrence Haggerty's spirit will continue to shine through the lives he touched. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the St. Vincent De Paul Society at St. Ambrose Parish, a perfect tribute to Brendan's enduring legacy of charity and service. https://my-site-101450-107944.square.site or mail checks to Saint Vincent De Paul Society 4921 55th Place, Hyattsville, MD 20781.
