Betty Bittinger Evans left us on Saturday, May 16th after a long brave battle with Ataxia. She will be deeply missed. Betty was smart, kind and generous with a love of literature, art, and nature. She was known for her beautiful smile. She was an excellent artist and excelled at landscape watercolors. She loved to walk. Walking gave her an excuse to be outdoors where she was happiest. She loved cats, birds, and even the family of groundhogs that lived outside of her apartment in Cockeysville.
She grew up on a dairy farm in Oakland, Maryland. After attending the University of Maryland she married James Evans, her husband of 37 years. She took excellent care of him during his long illness and until his death in 2005. She worked at the Baltimore County Department of Aging for 35 years helping the elderly find resources to better their lives.
She is survived by her daughter Michelle Pejokovich and son-in-law Mark, stepchildren Carol and Jay Evans, brother Tom Bittinger, sister Nancy Willoughby, and several nieces and nephews.
Please, if you can, donate to the National Ataxia Foundation in her name. We need to find a cure for the brutal genetic disease that took her from us. The website to donate at is https://ataxia.org/donate/
