Amalia Morales

Amalia Morales Cantillo, of Silver Spring Maryland, passed away on February 27, 2024, at the age of 94. 

Amalia was born on December 7, 1929, in Barranquilla, Colombia. Her parents were Manuel Morales Bello and Carmen Paulina Cantillo Martinez. Amalia was preceded in death by her older brother Jaime, and her younger brothers, Manuel "Manolo" and Antonio "Toño".

Amalia immigrated to the United States of America in the fall of 1968 and began her 25-year career with GEICO Insurance Company.  Amalia was the first member of the Morales family to immigrate to America. She was a beloved aunt who treated each of her nieces and nephews as if they were her children. 

Amalia is survived by her sister-in-law  Nelly Morales de las Salas, her nieces Margarita, Gina, Orietta, Amalia, and Carmen, as well as nephews  Jaime, Ricardo, Edgardo, Manuel Jr., Diego, Antonio Jr., Jairo, and Antonio along with their families.

Amalia asked to be cremated in the USA and then her ashes will be transferred to her hometown of Barranquilla.

The family will hold a mass on March 9, 2024 at 5 pm. At the Spanish mission of Saint Andrew Apostle Catholic Church in Silver Spring MD located at 12247 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring MD 20902

Amalia Morales Cantillo, de Silver Spring Maryland, falleció el 27 de febrero de 2024, a la edad de 94 años.

Amalia nació el 7 de diciembre de 1929 en Barranquilla, Colombia. Sus padres fueron Manuel Morales Bello y Carmen Paulina Cantillo Martínez. Amalia fue precedida en la muerte por su hermano mayor Jaime, y sus hermanos menores, Manuel "Manolo" y Antonio "Toño".

Amalia emigró a los Estados Unidos de América en el otoño de 1968 y comenzó su carrera de 25 años en GEICO Compañía Aseguradora. Amalia fue el primer miembro de la familia Morales en inmigrar a Estados Unidos. Era una tía querida que trataba a cada uno de sus sobrinos y sobrinas como si fueran sus hijos.

A Amalia le sobreviven su cuñada Nelly Morales de las Salas, sus sobrinas Margarita, Gina, Orietta, Amalia y Carmen, así como sus sobrinos Jaime, Ricardo, Edgardo, Manuel Jr., Diego, Antonio Jr., Jairo y Antonio junto con sus familias.

Amalia pidió ser cremada en USA y luego sus cenizas serán trasladas a su ciudad natal de Barranquilla.

La familia realizará una misa el dia 9 de Marzo de 2024 a las 5 pm. En la Iglesia Católica Misión San Andrés ubicada en el 12247 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring MD  20902
