Ruth Mausolf

May 25, 1943 — January 10, 2020

Ruth Mausolf passed away suddenly surrounded by her loving children, husband, and brothers at Prince George's Hospital on January 10, 2020.

She was born on May 25, 1943 in McKees Rocks, PA to Michael Richard Sr. and Vera Buchko. She was the big sister to her three brothers Dick, Bill, and Ronnie. She took them on imaginary road trips in their parent's car and was the ringleader of their little group. Before encouraging women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics was a focus, Ruth graduated from the University of Pittsburgh, where she majored in Chemistry and Mathematics. During her college years she enjoyed rock climbing and speeding around in her Cougar. She moved to California for a short time until her first earthquake experience sent her back East.

A 44 year resident of Cheverly, MD, she worked at the FBI when she first moved to the DC area and was later a Business Manager at the University of Maryland College Park. Even more than work, she loved the outdoors, whether it was hiking, listening to the waves at the beach, or enjoying the snow and then huddling under her down comforter. Her early wanderlust continued into adulthood and was satisfied by numerous trips abroad, frequent road trips, a drive across country, and annual visits to her favorite place - the Outer Banks, NC. Ruth was analytical and her favorite activities reflected that; she enjoyed crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, and any Lego set with at least 2,000 pieces.

More than anything else, she loved her family and being a mother and Omi. Whether whipping up a meal, planning celebrations, reading with her grandchildren, napping with babies, or lending a helping hand, she always went above and beyond for those she loved.

Ruth is survived by her husband of 47 years, Norman; her three children, Nancy Mausolf of Alexandria, VA, Susan Schmidt (Oliver) of Cheverly, MD, and Daniel Mausolf (Nadia) of Franklin, MA; her grandchildren Lillie and Benedikt Schmidt and Alyssa and Seth Mausolf; and her brothers Michael Richard Jr., William, and Ronald. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
