Donald Domogauer

July 14, 1942 — May 28, 2015

Don was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey on July 14, 1942. From his earliest years, he had a brilliant, curious mind and an amazing memory. He was fascinated by history, science, technology, politics, science-fiction and much more. This passion for knowledge and education remained with him and served him throughout his life:

the U.S. Navy (1961 - 1967), his early career in the newly-developing computer field, his pursuit of a B.A. in Sociology/ Anthropology and later an M. Ed. in Instructional Design from the University of Maryland. His career ended after a long stint with Cisco Systems where he developed certification programs. Throughout his life, his family always came first. He was a most encouraging, supportive and devoted husband, father and grand-dad.

He and Renee married in 1962 and traveled for five years with the Navy, moving from Chicago to Bremerton, WA to Charleston, SC and eventually to Dunoon, Scotland where their son Greg, who was born in New Jersey in 1966, spent his first year. It was in Bremerton and Dunoon that he served on the U.S.S. Simon Lake, a nuclear submarine tender.

In recent years, after retirement from Cisco, Don was content to enjoy his family, especially grandchildren Ryan and Carlie of whom he was immensely proud. He continued to read, enjoyed films, loved to explore restaurants and to cook. He continued that insatiable pursuit of knowledge developing a new interest in the medieval world, a subject about which he read extensively. His retirement days were spent in the company of his beloved dog Gill who was always at his side.

He volunteered with a local museum, the National Museum of Language, offering them computer assistance and, along with Renee, helped with a genealogy project for the JGSGW. He stayed connected to his days in the Navy through his membership in the U.S.S. Wasp and the U.S.S. Simon Lake associations and in the Historic Ships of Baltimore. He also enjoyed his association with the Archeological Institute of America.

Don often expressed his contentment and happiness with his life: "I've lived a charmed life... .a wonderful family and marriage, a beautiful home and a successful career... .much more than I ever dreamed."
So, let's today celebrate that life.
