Martin Hillman

November 23, 1973 — January 27, 2018

Deacon Martin B. Hillman, of Brentwood, Maryland, died Saturday, January 27, 2018 in The Washington Home & Community Hospices after a long fight against Brain Cancer. “God gave him the gift of life”, He shared it with us and now he has given it back, which is hard for his loved ones. Deacon Hillman was a blessed man, who led a wonderful existence. For this we are grateful.

Deacon Hillman was born in Irish Town, St. Andrews, Jamaica on November 23, 1973. During his teenage years, he migrated to the United States. Deacon Hillman received his secondary education at High Point High School and went to work in management at McDonalds for many years before furthering his education as a CDL Bus Driver.

Deacon Hillman was a well-known D.J., a true believer who was not shy about sharing the gospel with everyone he crossed paths. He was a “prayer worrier”, you could always find him on his knees in the wee hours of the morning. He would always tell me that it is best to “seek God early”. He loved to eat. He enjoyed cooking on a grill or stove. One of his favorite dishes to cook for his family was goat curry. He loved listening to music and enjoyed doing his crossword puzzles. He showed a keen sense of humor by his joy in telling jokes.

Deacon Hillman worked for Coach USA – Megabus in Hyattsville, Maryland for many years before we learned about his illness. His goals were to walk again and return to driving, which he loved with a passion. Deacon Hillman’s favorite scripture was Psalms 100. His greatest desire was for his mom to give her life to Christ. Deacon Hillman loved his family, but he was very passionate when it come to his children.

Many thanks to Sheryle Mason, MSW, at Community Hospice for connecting us with an incredibly caring cancer support group. A special thank you to Vincent Fouedjou his home care nurse, Simon Chi, Samuel Nkanang, and Grandma Ayo, his home aides who played a very intricate part in his care. And thanks to The Washington Home, who left no stone unturned in making his final days comfortable.

He preceded in death by his father, Stanford Hillman. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon Palmer-Hillman, two daughters, Sharonda Sheriff and Samantha Hillman, two sons, Jason Hillman and Martin D. Hillman, one granddaughter, Emaly Hillman. His mother, Audrey L. Gordon, three sisters Doreen Anderson, Linda Senyo, and Dana James and one brother Rohan Hillman. Also surviving are, his mother-in-law Carol Wauchope-Frater and eight sisters-in-law, and five brothers-in-law. Martin leaves many much-loved aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, in-laws, and friends.
