Frederick Baluch

Frederick P. Baluch passed away at age 88 in his former home at Greenbelt, Maryland surrounded by family and friends on Sunday November 18 after many years of failing health. Fred was born January 3, 1924 in Youngstown, Ohio, the youngest of 3 children of Stephen J. and Anna Pritoka Baluch. His ancestors were immigrants from Mokroluh and Dubrava in eastern Slovakia.
Fred Baluch graduated class of 1942 from Chaney High School in Youngstown, OH and served in the U.S. Army in France and Germany in the 97th Chemical Mortar Battalion during World War II. On June 14, 1947 he married his childhood sweetheart Dorothy Ann Taylor.
Fred graduated from the Washington (DC) Teachers College and the University of Maryland with degrees in elementary education. He worked for the Washington, D.C. Public Schools from 1950 until 1979 as a teacher and later as the principal of Emery Elementary School on Lincoln Road in NE Washington, DC. In 1981 he retired to the Rainbow Farm in Freeport, OH.
Fred is survived by his wife Dorothy and his eight children, five grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter: Frederick P. Baluch, Jr. of Clinton, MD; Stephen J. Baluch of Shepherdstown, WV; James T. Baluch of Norfolk, VA (partner Teri Esposito); Barbara Stevens of Front Royal, VA (spouse Patrick McCauley), and son Shawn Haines (spouse Rebecca and daughter Molly); Ruth M. Baluch of Freeport, OH (spouse Gene Reavis), and daughter Lisa Groh (spouse Michael); Dorothy A. Dobson of Greenbelt, MD (spouse Norman, step-daughter Theresa Smith, and sons Nicholas and Matthew); Robert F. Baluch of Greenbelt, MD; and John K. Baluch of Greenbelt, MD.
A memorial service will be scheduled later in December in Greenbelt, MD.
